RCS/HGC 1964 North American Tour 50th Reunion Concert

Join us on Sunday, September 28, 2014, from 11am-noon, for the RCS/HGC NAT 50th Reunion Concert at the Episcopal Divinity School Chapel (99 Brattle St., Cambridge, MA 02138).

In the summer of 1964, after three years of planning, a group of 90 singers and 3 conductors (Elliot Forbes, Cecelia Miles Riddell, and Archie Epps), embarked on a five-week, 26-concert tour. Highlights included performances with the Cleveland Symphony in Severance Hall under conductor Louis Lane; the Ravinia Festival Orchestra at Ravinia Park under Seiji Ozawa; the Vancouver Symphony at the Queen Elizabeth Theater under Dr. Charles Munch; and the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood under Eric Leinsdorf. This is the 1964 North American Tour’s 5th reunion, and each one has evoked ever more memories for alumni as they sing favorites from the tour program.

Congratulations, Beth!

RCS’s current resident conductor, Beth Willer, just won an amazing award! Chorus America, the country’s most prestigious service organization for choral music, just awarded her the 2014 Louis Botto Award. Past receipts have all founded and led the country’s most important professional vocal ensembles. The award honors a visionary leader willing to present adventurous programming, place artistic achievement above personal gains, take risks in creating a superior artistic product, and continuously advance the artistic mission of the ensemble. Congratulations, Beth!!!!

Calling all Holden Choruses Alumni …

As those of you attending reunion this year start planning for the festivities, keep in mind a special event!

This coming May, the Harvard Class of 1989 will gather for its 25th Reunion. The capstone of the weekend’s festivities will be the traditional Saturday evening Boston Pops Concert.

This year, the Class of 1989 is inviting all Holden alumni to take the Pops over even more by storm with class member Alan Gilbert at the podium and a number of class members as featured soloists in the concert. The big finale of the evening will be a performance of “Make Our Garden Grow” from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. Holden Choruses alumni are encouraged to join the chorus for what promises to be a most memorable music-making occasion. Please sign up no later than March 30, 2014 by sending an email to: makeourgardengrow89@gmail.com.
